The death of Jesus Christ stands as the greatest event in human history, surpassing all other world-changing moments. After enduring six hours of physical agony on the cross, Jesus bore the weight of humanity's sin during three hours of supernatural darkness. When he died, the temple curtain tore from top to bottom, symbolizing that God had opened direct access to himself through Jesus' sacrifice. Even the Roman centurion who participated in the crucifixion recognized Jesus' innocence and righteousness. This wasn't just a tragic death but the necessary foundation for resurrection and eternal hope. Jesus willingly took our place, bearing our sin so we could receive forgiveness and life.
