Acts 6:1-7

Growth is a gift, but it almost always brings complications. In Acts 6, the early church faced real tension when a group of widows was being overlooked in the daily distribution of food. Rather than dismissing the complaint, the apostles listened, gathered the community, and created a structure that honored both the ministry of the Word and the ministry of practical care. A Spirit-filled church is not a tension-free church. It is a church that responds to tension in a Spirit-filled way. When proclamation and service work together, the Word of God increases and disciples multiply. That pattern from Acts 6 is still the pattern for the church today.
